Yuri’s Metamorphosis is an immersive video installation created by Hugo Arcier and produced by N°130.
This science fiction story questions climate change and projects us into the future of humanity, taking a critical look at technosolutionism and geoengineering.
The narrator is a hybrid being, half-human, half-plant, whose skin resembles tree bark. He recounts the onset of major fires linked to global warming and the vicious circle that ensues: fewer trees accelerate the rise in temperatures.
No technology can stop the disaster: carbon capture plants, silver chloride drops to make it rain, millions of white beads imitating the reflection of melted ice…
When a new scientific innovation emerges, humanity finally seems to glimpse a solution: hybridising humans, giving them plant properties to absorb CO₂ and prolong their lives. But this transformation is not without consequences. Yuri, the first guinea pig for this technology, will discover the price to pay for it.
With a visual style inspired by video game culture and a narrative that favours off-screen action and free interpretation, Hugo Arcier offers us a chilling mirror of our world.
